redirecting from wordpress.com to self-hosted: specific posts
-
I’m moving my blog from wordpress.com to self-hosted.
I want people to be redirected to the new site if they visit the old one. I know about the Site Redirect feature (http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/).
But what about specific posts?
If someone clicks on http://example.wordpress.com/2012/08/26/name-of-the-blog-post/ I want them to be redirected to that specific post on the new website, i.e. http://example.com/2012/08/24/name-of-the-blog-post/ not just http://www.example.com.Is this possible?
Secondly, I’m going to make my wordpress.com blog visible just to me. Will the redirect feature still work then?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, the redirect works exactly the way you want, specific posts and all.
I’m not sure what making the blog private will do. I would expect that, yes, it will cause problems. I’ll flag this so staff can clarify. Because you definitely don’t want two sets of identical content out there.

The Site Redirect won’t function if your blog is private.
If the Site Redirect upgrade is in place, you don’t need to worry about duplicate content–users visiting your old blog will be redirected directly to the new one.
