REdirecting my wordpress.com blogposts to an my personal site, i see the $13 service to redirect domain to domain. How about the individual blog posts?
-
Does wordpress.com include that for that $13 fee? or just the main domain address?
iF wordpress doesn’t , is there a way? upgrading for a month to use a plugin? would that work? -
Hi there,
The Site Redirect feature can redirect any post or page of your site provided that the permalinks on the new site (the one you’re redirecting to) are matching those at WordPress.com. You can read more here:
https://wordpress.com/support/site-redirect/
If you want to have more control over the redirection, then you should use a specialized plugin.
May I ask what exactly are you looking to do? Maybe there’s another solution that better suits your needs.

I understand that best practice is to redirect individual posts to the same post on the new site. I have 150 posts. As far as I can tell, the redirect page that you mention only shows redirecting the domain itself, not each individual post. If, as you suggest, I need to use a specialized plugin, I see that i can pay $25 for a month’s upgrade that allows me to use specialized plug-in, I’d do that for a month if that allows me to redirect each post to it’s new address, and if those redirects would stay in place when i pay a $13 fee for the whole site-or if there is another way to do this. Or if this really isn’t necessary, I’d be happy to know that! thanks. M

Before we answer you, can you give us some examples of what content you’re needing to redirect? I’m not entirely sure if you need to upgrade to Business to use plugins, so I want to make sure we’re on the same page. Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.
Thanks!

Great to hear back and Yes sure I can give some examples:)

I’ll be very curious as to what you suggest, thanks so much

Thanks for that! But we also need to know where you want them redirected TO as well. Is it another WordPress.com site? Is it to another URL or domain name?
-
Ahh of course, they are all headed to https://moshecohen.net and specifically, in order listed in last reply
https://moshecohen.net/category/sacred-clown/
https://moshecohen.net/velorama-bicycle-museum/

Thank you!
It looks like you exported your WordPress.com site in full – because the posts on both sites still have the same post ID, which would normally handle a site redirect upgrade on your site here.
However, since you also changed the post permalink, you’ll need a redirection plugin to handle the incorrect links. However, that is something you need to install on your new site, not on WordPress.com, and is a somewhat manual process. Basically you wait for an incorrect incoming link, then you can set the specific rule for the redirect plugin to route traffic to the correct post URL. Most plugins that do this work like that.
So what you’ll need is to get the site redirect upgrade in place to route any hits to
yoowho.wordpress.comtomoshecohen.net. This will make the/category/links and other archive pages work without a custom redirect since that URL structure has not changed. For the posts, a custom redirect rule would need to be added on a per-post basis.I hope that helps!

Unfortunately I seem to running into some problems trying to redirect the individual posts. I am attaching a screenshot if I can.
the message when i redirect an individual post says:
“this will be created to a server redirect for the domain yoowho.wordpress.com .”which leads me to believe that redirecting the individual posts isn’t working.
i don’t seem to be able to attach the screen shot of the redirect page….

addendum:
the previous note from me (june 5th at 4:33)
was written before i did the redirect upgrade on the site.since then the conditions are different, and perhaps for future reference,as they are different than what you suggested would happen.
when you get the upgrade, your redirect program not only redirects it to my new blog site
https://moshecohen.net/blog/
-the wp.redirect takes precedence over my redirection plug-in. i can tell by checking the blog posts (25 or so) on the redirection platform where i had previously done the redirection using the plugin on my new site. where there is a link for each redirect that says”Check redirect”. A pop comes up with the results:
-Before I did the worpress $13 upgrade, all that showed was that the redirect had failed.
-after the upgrade, each posts shows that redirect was successful, however that the plug-in was overridden by another redirect-which has to be the wordpress upgrade redirect.
– i pointed the wp upgrade redirect to moshecohen.net/blog, however in each case, the ‘check’ showed that the wp-redirect went to the specific corresponding blog post and not the general blog page.Great upgrade redirect, I only wish that wordpress would make that info (as to how the upgrade functions on a technical basis) part of the knowledge base so that when I asked support, that info would be offered….or even be part of the upgrade info presented on your website. Thanks!
