Redirecting old site to new site
-
Hello,
I would be greatful for help in redirecting the following two websites
1. http://jamesbailey.eu/ (I may have already a redirect on and would like to switch).
2. https://jhcbailey.wordpress.com/TO
http://fascinatingafrica.com/about/safari-school/If possible I would like to do it by simply purchasing a standard procedure from the store rather than having to download and activate a plugin etc.
Many thanks for you help on this matter.
James

Hi James,
1) The domain jamesbailey.eu was purchased at another registrar and mapped to a WordPress.com site. As the site it was mapped to had been deleted I have removed the upgrade from your site. To redirect this domain to your new site you’ll need to contact to your domain registrar.
2) To redirect jhcbailey.wordpress.com, you’ll want to buy the site redirect upgrade here: https://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/redirect/
You can read more about this upgrade in this support document:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/If you have other questions let us know.

Hello, thank you very much for the advise. It is all working so far, there is one final complication. I have been asked the following from 123-reg:
There are 3 methods which can be used to link your domain name to your external hosting:
1. Web forwarding
2. DNS – using an A record or a CNAME record
3. NameserversYou will need to ask your web hosting provider to confirm which method you should use, and provide you with the required settings.
Please could you answer this question and supply me with the appropriate settings?
many thanks for your help so far. It is appreciated.

Hi James,
We recommend using our name servers:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMYou’ll find our full guide on how to use our name servers here:

Hi James,
You’ll be able to redirect all sub folders of jamesbailey.eu by pointing the site redirect at 123-reg instead of pointing the domain to our name servers. The registrar should be able to help you set up a site redirect on their end. Note you will not need to point the domain to WordPress.com.
As for the redirect of https://jhcbailey.wordpress.com there is currently no way to prevent the sub directories from redirecting. They will try to find the posts at the new URL. You may be able to do a redirect of:
http://fascinatingafrica.com/about/safari-school/SOME-POST-NAME-HERE to just
http://fascinatingafrica.com/about/safari-school/However, this redirect must be done outside of WordPress.com on your new WordPress site.
