Redirecting old WordPress site to new one

    I recently changed my free WordPress site name through the Domain Settings but search but all the search engines still show the old site address and direct to a page that says ‘this site has been deleted.’ And there’s no turning back – the change cannot be undone! Can that be redirected or changed somehow? HELP PLEASE!!!!

    If you make changes to your site – including your domain name – the site previews provided by Google may take some time to update.

    We do note that by changing your site address, links to your old address (including search engine results) will be broken. To fix this, we can recover your old domain name delongsandbeyond.wordpress.com (since it’s within 30 days of the change) and you would be able to add a Site Redirect upgrade to the old site to redirect traffic to your new site.

    Google’s results will eventually update any existing crawls for your URL to point to your new site name, so you likely wouldn’t need the redirect for more than a year.

    If you don’t want to go that route you can contact Google directly to recrawl your site now instead of their normal “when they get to it” process:

    NOTE: Google can choose to not fulfill recrawl requests, so this isn’t a guarantee it’ll get updated more quickly.

    I do want to recover the old site and redirect it to my newly named one. Who do I contact? What steps do I need to take?

    Hi there!

    You can confirm here and we’ll restore your old site delongsandbeyond.wordpress.com – once that’s done, you can go to this link to purchase the Site Redirect upgrade by yourself. It’ll ask for the redirect address where you can enter your new site’s address. When all of this is set up, delongsandbeyond.wordpress.com will redirect to delongroadhome.wordpress.com.

    If that sounds good, please confirm and we’ll restore the site delongsandbeyond.wordpress.com now.

    So yes, I do want that to happen! Please restore delongsandbeyond.wordpress.com.

    Question, though: After I purchase the site redirect, do I have to do anything else? Is my new website name of delongroadhome.worpress.com already active or do I have to do something more (like move everything to a new wordpress site under the new name)?

    Your other site, delongroadhome.wordpress.com, is already active. So if you want to redirect from delongsandbeyond.wordpress.com to delongroadhome.wordpress.com, what you need to do is:

    1. Purchase Site Redirect at this link: https://wordpress.com/support/site-redirect/ (The link also has instructions that you can follow to set it up)
    2. Make sure to purchase Site Redirect on delongsandbeyond.wordpress.com
    2. Set up the Site Redirect with this address: delongroadhome.wordpress.com

    You can let us know after you’ve purchased Site Redirect and we can take a look to confirm if it’s all set up correctly.

    How long does it take for the redirect to kick in? It hasn’t been working as of yet. (Not panicking but a little bit panicking…)
