redirecting our website to new domain

    Hi!
Is there a solution to redirect our free website to new domain? I see there is a redirection option with yearly fee of 13 EUR, but does it redirect all websites (incl. subpages) to the new page?
For example if somebody would go to mypage.wordpress.com/page1, would it redirect this person to the new site?
    Thank you.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Hey Tiim2079, the WP Site Redirect does a full transformation of all pages (incl subpages) from the existing site to the new domain.

For it to take place, you have to ensure that the permalinks match up between both parties.

For example: mypage.wordpress.com/page1 -> mypage.com/page1 This way, the internet is capable of identifying which asset to select when displaying content information.

You can use this support documentation as a reference https://wordpress.com/support/site-redirect/

Thank you for fast response :)
And what would be the solution if the sublinks do not match – they were adapted for new site. Is there any easy solution to make this change?

You’re most certainly welcome. A solution for that would be to configure the existing site’s permalinks to sync up with the adapted protocol.

    For example: if mypage.wordpress.com/page1 = mypage.com/about
    change mypage.wordpress.com/page -> mypage.wordpress.com/about.

If the pages don’t sync there’s a chance that your users will encounter an error.

  • Hi @tiim2079

I did not see you mention it, but are you planning to migrate to a self-hosted WordPress site? I’m referring to WordPress sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.

If so then yes as @tiim2079 suggests, you can set that site to use the default WordPress permalink structure, and all links you have here will be redirected to the same post (or page) on the new site, since the permalinks are identical.

If you plan to use a custom permalink structure on your self-hosted site, you can use a redirection plugin you install on the new site, and set up a redirect to catch any traffic we send you and make sure it lands on the correct page or blog post (using the new URL structure)

You can find a few redirection plugins here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/redirection/

Also there is a third option. If you are needing the ability to upload your own plugins and themes you can do that without moving away from WordPress.com. Instead you could upgrade to our WordPress.com Business Plan, which gives your WordPress.com site the same advanced capabilities (to add plugins, themes, FTP, etc) as you have with other providers.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
