Redirecting people from a .WordPress to a .com site
-
Hello there! I trying to decide/figure out how to redirect people from my WordPress site (https://oadejobi2.wordpress.com/) to My website (http://www.aalobukky.com/). I have successfully exported all my content to the new domain, but unsure whether it is safe to delete my WordPress site (https://oadejobi2.wordpress.com/).
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have the same question. Moving from coloradolifestylephotography.wordpress.com to http://www.colorado-lifestyle-photography.com. It’s all new content on my new domain, I don’t want to actually transfer any content from coloradolifestylephotography.wordpress.com. Do I still use the plugin? So if someone were to select coloradolifestylephotography.wordpress.com it would just automatically take them to my new home page? Thank you!

If you are keeping your site on WordPress.com and just adding a custom domain (colorado-lifestyle-photography.com) then all you need to do is set up Domain Mapping:

Domain Mapping is included with all of the WordPress.com Plans:

No, the new domain is a brand new site. I didn’t move any content from the old site. They are like two completely different websites. So if someone clicks on the OLD coloradolifestylephotography.wordpress.com, I want to take them to my NEW homepage at http://www.colorado-lifestylephotography.com.
Click on the two sites and you will see the difference. Can you assist please?

Then you need the Site Redirect upgrade that I mentioned earlier:
-
Can you tell me exactly how that works? I read the page, but I want to understand before I purchase. Does that automatically redirect all links from coloradolifestylephotography.com to the homepage at http://www.colorado-lifestyle-photography.com? (not sharing any content but just directing to my new domain) After my 1 year subscription, would I just delete the old site so there is not duplicate content?

Thank you for your response. Is there a way of doing it without having to pay?
-
No, it tries to direct traffic to a particular page on your WordPress.com site to the equivalent page on your self-hosted WordPress.org site. If there is no equivalent page (such as with your situation), users will see an error page. It’s likely that error page can be customized to your liking through your self-hosted site, but the Site Redirect upgrade cannot be forced to send all traffic to your WordPress.com site to a specific page location.
It isn’t really designed to be used in the situation you are describing. It’s more set up for people who are just moving their whole site and want their links to stay active.
