Redirecting site to a new domain name

    Hi all,

    I’m struggling to understand what I have to do to direct my teannualconference2014dotinfo.wordpress.com to a new domain name teannualconference.info. Until 2 days ago we still had it under domain name teannualconference2015.info, but we have decided not to renew it and stick to a more sustainable domain name.

    Please can someone advise me on this? When I go to the new domain name http://teannualconference.info/, I see this message: http://postimg.org/image/ewqn131p1/

    Do I really need to cancel the expired one first?

    Also another question is: if I cancel the 2015 domain, will my content still be available? I’m afraid to loose all the content!

    Hi @tceurope, you can add the other domain and make it primary, but as long as you leave the expired 2015 domain on your account, we’ll show you that warning.

    Personally, I’d recommend renewing the 2015 domain but making your new domain primary. That way, anyone linking to the old domain will still be able to see it. Search engines would also get the message to update their links. You could remove the 2015 domain just before it expires again next year.

    If you’d like to let it expire this year, though, do please go ahead and cancel it from that prompt, or confirm here that you’d like to cancel it. Just note cancelled or long-expired domains can be difficult to retrieve.

    Indeed we want to cancel the 2015 domain. Could you help us with that please? After cancelling it, will our content still be available? We just want to change the domain name, but keep all the existing content.

    I’ve already made teannualconference.info the primary domain. Please let me know if there’s anything we have to do on our side.

    Just a last question about verifying the ownership: where exactly do I have to do it? Haven’t noticed anything nor under My domains neither under My blogs…
