Redirecting web traffic

    Hi there.
    I’ve set-up the above site for my charity. However, I purchased our domain several years ago from a firm. I did a redirect from the firm to the WordPress site, but the redirect doesn’t seem to work. We are looking at upgrading to pro, but want to be sure that if we do so, the redirect will work and preferably our URL will appear instead of the WordPress URL. Please let if this is the case. Thank you!

    I’m trying to redirect web traffic from http://www.spyre.org.nz to our WordPress site at spyre477841487.wordpress.com – but hopefully being able to retain our http://www.spyre.org.nz URL. Hope that makes sense.

    Hi,

    It sounds like you’re asking for what different registrars call differently for example:
    Domain Forwarding
    Website Redirect
    URL redirect
    URL forwarding
    Public whois shows your registrar for ‘spyre.org.nz’ is:
    “1st Domains”
    It looks like tey call this “URL redirection”

    And here is their guide on this as far as I can tell:
    https://support.1stdomains.co.nz/afmmain.asp?topicid=&faqid=38
    “Question :
    How do I set-up URL redirection? …”
    “URL Redirection”
    “Configuring URL Redirection
    Enter an existing web site address into the ‘Forwarding Address’ box and click update. Your domain name will now redirect to this web site. …”

    So in short, you should be able to do this by logging in to your registrar which looks like it’s 1st Domains, and in there you can set up “URL Redirection” per their instructions at the link above.

    You’d probably have to fill a short form to make the URL Redirection happen FROM spyre.org.nz TO https://spyre477841487.wordpress.com/

    The method I said would actually land the visiotr browser on the latter url.

    If you want to use your own domain name (spyre.org.nz) as the final landing domain name then the best and most secure way is to officially use it as the domain name for your wordpress website:

    We can’t transfer a org.nz domain into our registrar. But the domain connection option will work beautifully.

    And yes, that will work with Pro. Pro will also give you access to outside themes and plugins with managed hosting. You could use the domain credit to buy a similar domain and connect it to your org.nz domain, if you wanted to. Or, you can just leave the credit and use the free-with-the-plan connection option.
