redirecting wordpress domain name to new business domain name

  I am moving my blog to my new business website, http://www.PaulaYoumellRN.com.

  If I redirect my wordpress domain name to go to this new site, will my followers be aware of this change?

  Or should I blog that I am doing this before I take down the word press blog?

  I will be keeping my domain name, http://www.wholefoodhealer.com and re-direct it to my new business website.

  Hi Paula!

  First, the best scenario would be to connect your new site to Jetpack via the instructions here:

  http://jetpack.me/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/

  That will bring many of the features at WordPress.com to your new self-hosted blog. More importantly (for your particular question), you can transfer your followers to your self-hosted site following the instructions here:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/

  If you simply redirect your WordPress.com site to your new domain, your subscribers will not be notified of new posts. However, if they attempt to visit your blog, they will be redirected. If you move your subscribers following the instructions above, email subscribers will continue to receive emails regarding new posts. WordPress.com subscribers (those that just subscribe through the Reader) will only see new posts in the Reader (no emails). For that reason, it’s good to announce on your WordPress.com blog that you’re moving so readers have a change to subscribe directly to your new site. Does that make sense?

  Makes HUGE sense to me. I will get my 15 year old to help with the changes.

  wordpress will remind me when I need to renew the domain name, correct?

  Hey Paula,

  We’ll send an email to the address on file for your account when your domain is about to expire. However, currently the domain is set to auto renew meaning it will renew automatically 30 days prior to expiration. You can manage the auto renew option here:

  Just a note, since you’ll be redirecting this domain to another site, you’ll likely want to disable the No Ads upgrade as that is only applicable to your site at WordPress.com. Just click “Disable Auto Renew” on the page above beneath the No Ads upgrade so that won’t renew automatically next year. It will eventually expire and be removed from your account.
