Redirection
-
Our community organisation had a website with the following URL: https://unitecommunityleeds.wordpress.com/ However, as our organisation changed it’s name, I then changed the username and the URL became: https://unitecommunityleedswakefield.wordpress.com/ Having made this change, I then tried to redirect from the old wordpress site to the cureent wordpress site but could see no facility for doing this. All I could find was a facility to change from the current wordpress site to a new one for charge. I would be happy to be the modest charge if there is a way of redirecting in these circumstances. Thanks for any help you can offer with my query.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You asked the same question previously but didn’t add the details you’ve included today: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/redirecting-25/
However I see:unitecommunityleeds.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.Perhaps if you had set up another site rather than just changing the address then you could have applied a site redirect (or could have just placed a link to your new site on the front page of the old site).
Are you still expecting people to be visiting the first site and puzzling over the “deleted site” message? I have added the modlook tag to ask if a member of staff could offer any advice. -
Many thanks for this. Yes, still expecting people to visit the old site and puzzling over deletion, as you describe.

How long ago did you change addresses? Normally, if a site is just deleted staff can recover it if less than 30 days have elapsed. I don’t know if sites deleted as a consequence of the address being changed have that same option and will welcome any clarification from staff. (I’ve never put myself in that situation. You would have been the one seeing the warning message where you ticked a box agreeing that changing addresses can’t be undone).

Howdy –
I was able to restore the previously deleted site, unitecommunityleeds.wordpress.com. You’ll see that listed under My Sites in the upper left corner of the dashboard.

Unparalleled thanks to Magicrobot and lizkarkoski. You are both life-savers. I have now learned the error of my ways! Mea culpa… I have put a redirection notice on the old site. Thanks again.

We’re happy to help, @unitecommunityleedswakefield :)
I wanted to mention you have a few other options as well to make things easier on your readers.
If you prefer the old site name, you could export content from the new site, import it back into the old one, and then update the theme as needed. Unfortunately some of this is some manual work, but it’s doable.
If you are fine with the new site name, we can move over any subscribers and stats for you if you’d like. We also have a site redirect upgrade that would not only help visitors to the old site seamlessly end up on the new one, it will also redirect search engines so your search engine links won’t be lost.

Hi,
Thanks for your helpful advice. I will certainly use the site redirect upgrade. I’d also like to take you up on your offer to move over subscribers and stats from the old to the new site. Is there a cost for this? -
There is no cost to move subscribers and stats, no, but if you’re staying with the new site, unitecommunityleedswakefield.wordpress.com, all your followers and stats are already there. Those were moved automatically when you changed the site address.
It’s only necessary for us to move those if you decided to go back to the old address, unitecommunityleeds.wordpress.com
