hi,
Please tell me if your redirection service plan (13$) for domain, means a 301 redirection, safe for seo purposes for any already indexed urls in google serp ? ( any rewriting settings is impossible anyway on the platform wordpress.com , isn’t ? ) ..

tks a lot, i did the three step for the domain settings, from wordpress site all seems ok, from my domain hosting i insert the ns from wp.
Now i ‘ve to wait for 24 hours, as the website is not available anymore…..
Or to avoid that can i switch later from wp, to let the wp sud-domain available ? Tks…

To avoid losing visits , i just set the subdomain from WP for the time being. I ‘ll wait for the mapping to achieve …am i right ?

The nameservers appear to be set up correctly for saintjeandegarguier.com.
There is no primary domain set for saintjeandegarguier.wordpress.com. This means that although saintjeandegarguier.com will forward to the site, saintjeandegarguier.com will appear in the browser address bar. Please see http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#setting-the-primary-domain
After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient. Note that it’s quite common for your own ISP to be last one to flush their DNS caches.

WordPress.com removes the “www” from all URLs. When clicked the “ww” URLs direct to the same URL without the unnecessary “www”.
www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.

yes but the redirection is not made…the landing page is the one from my host domain provider, not the site.
So i set a sub domain with “www” as i did for the domain but need to wait for availability..Afterwards, it not important to see the www in the browser or not i agree.. -

I’m pretty sure of that, cause the wp redirection service is available for :
– subdomain.wordpress.com
– domain.com
– sub.domain.com
But could not work if the sub.domain.com is not set beforehand.Tks..

The domain mapping for your domain, saintjeandegarguier.com and http://www.saintjeandegarguier.com is working correctly in my system. They both route correctly to your WordPress.com site, saintjeandegarguier.wordpress.com.
Is something not working on your end? Let me know and I’ll see what’s going on!

Tks, seems to be fine now.
2 more question, please..1/ if i rewrite an old url from “myblog.com/article-one” to “myblog.com/article-one-one”, would the 301 redirection be automatic or will it generate a 404 page error ?
2/ is there something to set in the backend of WP to avoid seo problem.

Hi there,
Our site redirect product is really only designed to provide whole-site redirection from WordPress.com to a functional mirror of your site if you have migrated elsewhere (usually to a self-hosted WordPress.org installation).
So functionally, if you still had your site:
http://saintjeandegarguier.wordpress.com/
Set up with us with all of your content, but you had set up a new WordPress.org site:
http://saintjeandegarguier.com
On some other server with a WordPress.org installation, Site Redirect is designed to automatically provide a 301 redirect for any specific page requests to your new site.
So. In this example:
http://saintjeandegarguier.wordpress.com/page-one
Would get a 301 redirect to:
http://saintjeandegarguier.com/page-one
Now if for some reason you did not have “page-one” set up on http://saintjeandegarguier.com, then it would of course result in a 404 error, however we would still send requests to it.

I mean, i have a set of urls which are not very user friendly (already indexed in google) , so i ‘d like to change them to rename it. In this case, how the redirection is made ?

WordPress.com URLs are set at “Day and Name” and for the redirects to work properly, you will have to have your new site set that way as well.
