  Hi,

  I’ve just switched to self-hosting. I tried setting up a redirect from my wordpress.com account. But the new account has a different structure to the permalinks (not only is the ‘WordPress’ part missing, but I’ve also removed using the dates). I cancelled my redirect because it was just leading to ‘page not found’.

  Is there a way of setting up a redirect that will work?

  Hi there,

  For the Site Redirect to work correctly, the permalinks on your new site should match those on your old WordPress.com site.

  If the new site you’re redirecting to does not use that same permalink structure, the redirect will try to find a post or page on your new site that matches the post or page URL from your WordPress.com site. However, if it’s able to find one it will display an error message.

  That’s the only way a redirect will work.
