Redoable Lite Theme – How do I center the blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I would like to know what CSS code I need to add to have Redoable Lite appear centered. There is a lot of space on the right and I would like to have equal space on both sides of the blog. I know it’s something like a wrapper or container, but I’ve looked at the CSS code and can’t seem to find what I need to change.

    Thanks for any assistance you can offer,
    Rhymes

    We need a link to your blog please.

    Sorry about that. There’s nothing really there:

    Have you purchased the CSS upgrade?

    Even without it you can practice and preview, but not save your changes. You need to alter header, middle column and right column, as they’re called in that theme.

    I have purchased the upgrade and I will try to make the necessary changes.

    Thanks for your help.

    Unfortunately I am unable to get my head around the code. I’m making it worse than better! Ive tried changing the numbers in the widths, but I think it may have something to do with absolute vs. relative position.

    But thanks again for your assistance.

    I saw this thread earlier and was wondering if this would accomplish what I wanted:

    Are these all the elements that I need to adjust?

    1. #header
    2. #header_content
    3. #page
    4. #alt_menu
    5. #footer

    I apologize for the stupid questions. I’ve searched the forums and I actually switched to this theme after wanting to use Vigilence because I just didn’t have the skills to customize it. I thought I could change the posting font to a serif font and center the blog in this theme, and it would look the way I wanted.

    I’ve managed to get the right sidebar to move more to the right. I managed to get part of the title bar moved to the right. I did both by increasing the margins. I don’t think this is the “right” way to do it, but I can’t find any other way.

    There seems to be some sort of double layer on the blog – one moves but one doesn’t. So it really isn’t centered with this shadow underneath.

    And there’s another bar under the header area, in the space between the header and the posting area and sidebar. I can’t find the code to correspond to that to get it to shift.

    I can’t figure out how to change the positioning of the middle column. I did manage to get the posting layer shifted to the right by increasing the border-left margin, but it only moves the “top layer”. I can’t get the other layer beneath it to move and it just means that there’s a wider space between the posts and the left side. This is the only CSS I can find that corresponds to the middle:

    #middlecolumn {
    background: #333;
    border-left: 10px solid #222;
    border-right: 10px solid #222;
    margin: 0px; – makes posting area narrower
    min-height: 100%;
    }

    If I could just know what that bottom layer is called I could probably center the blog. But I’ve tried so many things and I can’t identify it and can’t get that layer to move.

    Am I on the right path or am I just making more of a mess? I’m worried that by doing the changes the wrong way it’ll affect my blog.

    Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Here’s an example of what you need to add. The padding-left addition centers the center column (more or less, depending on the monitor). I do this sort of thing with ems but your theme is already using pixels so I stayed with that.

    body {
    padding-left:225px;
    padding-top:28px !important;
    }

    To move it more to the left, reduce the number.

    You’re welcome. CSS is fun.
