Redordering Pages (Prev/Next)
-
Trying to use Appearance > Editor > Pages > Actions > Order to change the sequence, however this does not reliably update how pages appear in Prev/Next cycle? Worse, deleted pages leave _id references in URL that return 404 errors?

P.S. “Upgrade” banner not very enticing when basic functionality doesn’t work.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, could you share a screenshot of the settings on this page? You can also read the guide on how to use page parent and order settings.

Hi, the screenshot above is from a deleted page, so I can’t show you those settings. In the images below, you can see the correct list (items 0-7) in the Pages dashboard; that sequence comes from the Order modal(s) in the visual editor as shown. However, the Prev/Next buttons do not display them as tagged and include deleted pages as 404s.

In other words, the Order modal in the visual editor only changes the sequence on the Pages menu, not on published front end, and includes pages which should not exist.

Hi @phillipwedo,
I checked the Grammar One theme you are currently using and totally understand the problem you are facing.
The reason you can’t change the order this way is that the theme developer didn’t design a way to change the order of the pages.
They are using the previous posts/next posts block that are based on the post-published date and time.

But don’t worry, I have an idea that can help you realize this wish, and that idea is to remove the prev/next button and use a drop-down menu instead.
If you think this would work too, please let me know. I’d be happy to provide guidance!
