Reduce size of picture, to reduce space does not work

  Hello, I don’t have a problem with my space yet. But I don’t understand the way it works. I have done the following:
  – upload e image (5mb) -> the space for the page increases (OK)
  – scaling down the image in wordpress to less pixels (500kb) -> the space for the page increases (??)
  Why does the space for the page increases when I scale down e image? That is not logical to me. I expected that the size for the page decreases. What is the correct way to do it?

  WordPress.com stores both copies of the image. The original (5mb) and the scaled down version (500kb). You can use an image editor and scale down your images prior to uploading.

  Okey thankyou for your answer. Than the scale function in wordpress makes not much sence.

  You’re welcome.

  It makes sense to store the original image because by keeping it you can revert back to it (from cropping, scaling or rotation) without re-uploading it.

  If you are worried about images taking up a lot of space, you can use an image editing software to resize and compress your images prior to upload them.
