Reducing font size of page headers so that words over 7 letters can be used
-
I would like to either decrease the font size of my page titles or increase the column width of the title area.
In the theme I’m using, any word over seven letters in a title gets broken up – not hyphenated, just jumbled up. Like”

sI use the “Columnist” Theme and I like many of it’s features but it should have had a warning that you can’t title a column with words over three syllables.
I’m not particularly interested in upgrading to CSS customization because this is the only thing I wan to change – and it’s not a change, it’s a fix of a flaw in the theme, so I shouldn’t have to upgrade. I mean, think about it.
I feel that there has to be a workaround. When I enter a title, I can make it bold or italic with simple HTML entered right into the title. Isn’t there something like that which would make the font smaller so that I’m not restricted to using one-syllable words in the title?
Please help. I’m a little frustrated. I have been giving WordPress blog posts different titles than the ones I use for syndication, which can handle bigger words. But that screws up organic rankings and SEO. And I don’t want to change the theme. I just want to fix this annoying problem.
Thank you.

I’ve just reported the issue to our theme developers. I’ll contact you once I hear back from them.
Thank you!

After a closer look it seems that this only happens to words of a certain length (more than 10 characters). This is simply how the theme handles this and there is no real good solution for this other than breaking the words apart.
Alternatively you could switch to a theme from our theme directory at http://themes.wordpress.com that handles post titles differently.
