Reducing image size after upload / removing original image file after scaling?
-
Hi there,
Is there a way of mass downsizing all previously uploaded images? Or sort your images by largest image?
I seem to have managed to upload quite a few very large ones and would like to reduce image size without loosing the old posts.
And even more frustrating I spent quite some time scaling down the images that were the largest but all it seems to have achieved is that now the original images and the scaled image that was meant to replace the original one are stored on my account causing even less available space?
The Blog is: http://www.katzenworld.co.uk
Thanks,
Marc

I’ll check it out tho have a feeling WP.com won’t allow that api.
Any idea if WP staff can delete the duplicate copies of an image?

You can by all means use Flickr to host your images.
Reducing them in size after uploading doesn’t increase the amount of space left in your media library; neither does deleting them altogether.
Either use Flickr or just register another free blog here and hotlink images from that.

Hey Raincoaster changing their size after upload has indeed increased the total amount of storage used… And no i prefer them to be hosted on my domain name.
As for why the files use even more space apparently if you use the scaling option on WP.com it KEEPS the original and the re-scaled image so you can restore it any point – try it out you will notice that you end up with even less space. :(
So the question is can WP staff delete those redundant large original copies? I’d rather not go into each post to manually delete and re-upload >,<

Yes, I know. No, staff won’t delete those files for you.
Your report that deleting files does free up space is at variance with at least three other blogger reports, but if it works for you, bonus.
