reestablishing my original WordPress themed website: JillYrisWriter.com
-
1) I built my website using WordPress. 2) My domain and web host went out of business. 3) I bought my domain again using Google domains. 4) I need a new web host. 5) If I buy WordPress.com for my web host, how do I recover my former website? (WordPress recognizes my username but not my password.) 6) If I get a new username and password, then WordPress won’t recognize my old site.

Hi there:
You can totally host your site here at WordPress.com. Since you purchased a Personal plan, you can map your domain to your site here. Here’s our support document that will show you what you’ll need to update at your domain registrar:

Regarding recovering your site – if your host went out of business, then the site no longer exists, so there won’t be anything to log into anymore. Also, if you weren’t taking regular backups of your site and if your host didn’t provide you with an export or backup of your site before they went out of business you’re likely out of luck.
However, you could try to look up your site via the Internet Archive Wayback Machine to see if they have any snapshots of your site from the past. That way you can at least copy and paste any content from there to a new post or page on your new site. You can find the Wayback Machine here:
I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help here, but I hope this at least helps you get started getting your site back online.
