Referral Codes
-
Ok, I know all about the rules against advertising on a free WordPress.com blog, and how posting referral codes (e.g. Swagbucks, Gifthulk, Lootpalace, etc), even thru the widgets, is not allowed and will result in temporary suspension.
My question is, what if you put a link to another non-wordpress blog that has the referral link there? It is technically not on the WordPress blog, it is clearly outside of it. Is this allowed, or does it still count as violating the ToS?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you fail to report any WordPress.COM blog that is in violation of the TOS and choose to link to it instead then I sincerely hope your blog goes down with it when it’s suspended and will do everything I can to insure that happens.

Do be clear on the fact that no one who is under the age of thirteen years can legally register a username account and blog here at WordPress.com.

One, I am over 13.
Two, I have already clearly specified that the blog that has the link is a NON-wordpress.com blog.
Three, unless I’m mistaken, this is a HELP forum, not a suspend-as-many-people-as-you-can forum. I remember you from my last experience with forums, and you ended up getting my blog suspended temporarily.
It appears to me as if the only reason you comment on these forums is to scare people, and not to actually help them. I would appreciate it if you were more considerate as to what effect your words have on other people, especially when you state how you “sincerely hope my blog goes down with it when it’s suspended and will do everything you can to insure that happens”. -
I’m sorry I missed this part above “to another non-wordpress blog”.
I’m visually challenged and I do apologize for missing that. You can link to any blog wish to.
-
Alright then. That was a rather crucial part you missed, but that’s ok, as long as we’re both on the same page now.
To clarify, linking to a Blogspot.com blog does not count as advertising? Regardless of the content within it?
Thank you.
-
No it does not count as advertising.
You can link to any blog you want to link to, knowing that links indicate relationships. Among the most influential factors when Google determines on page rank is the blogs you choose to link to and the blogs that choose to backlink to yours. Reciprocal linking has next to no value these days.
P.S. I was astonished to read that you were over 13. To me that stuff on the blog looks likes it’s for a much younger set of people. I’m sorry for assuming you could be underage.

A separate question, since you seem to have a lot of influence with the whole suspending process. What about the blog below? They seem to have an awful lot of banners on the sidebar, advertising the online game Fantage

I did something similar a while ago, and I got suspended for it. Or is what they’re doing different and not considered violating the ToS?
-
Oh, in response to your previous comment:
Thanks for telling me about page ranks, I didn’t know that.
And yes, I guess the topic of my blog is about a kid’s online game, but a lot of older people play it too. And, I guess blogging about a game is different from playing it :)

We Volunteers have zero to do with blog suspensions. All suspensions are under the jurisdiction of the Terms of Service Staff.
I don’t have any answer to this:

Oh, I see. Thanks for clearing that up.
Thank you for your help, I appreciate that you tagged the thread. Is the power to tag threads to call for a staff member limited to volunteers only, or can anyone do this?
-
-
Actually it is important to note that if the staff feel that a site hosted on WP.com exists primarily to drive traffic to a site OFF WP.com, it will be suspended.
-
Well, I guess that’s not a concern then, because the link only shows up once, on a side page. Thanks though.

HI kooteniwan,
If you feel a WordPress.com blog is violating the Terms of Service, we encourage you to report it using the option in your admin bar under your blog title, “Report this content”. We do review all such reports individually, but will not discuss TOS issues publicly.
If you want to link to a site with ads or referrals, that’s generally fine, as long as the link isn’t a referral or Pay to Click kind of link.
