Referrer Count
-
Hi, I’m fairly new to WordPress. I’m enjoying the experience so far.
This past week I’ve noticed a count discrepancy between Facebook referrals and the traffic count. My Facebook referral count is much higher than the traffic count.
On the WordPress traffic section it says:
The referrers section lists other blogs, web sites, and search engines that link to your blog. A view is counted as a referrer when a visitor of the other site clicks a link and lands on a URL of your blog. This doesn’t seem to be happening. Thoughts?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I took a look at your stats from yesterday, and I don’t see the discrepancy you mentioned. Your total number of views was higher than the number of Facebook referrals.
One thing to keep in mind is that it takes some time for us to crunch the numbers on your stats, so it’s possible that the referrer count was updated before the total view/visitor count for the day. If you are still seeing a discrepancy in your stats, please let me know where you’re seeing it (for example, what day in your stats there’s a discrepancy) and I’ll be happy to take another look! :)

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your reply. Here is what I saw yesterday on this post

Facebook 74 (Yesterday, the FB count was 68, but the referrer number was something like 17/18). It’s not a huge deal, but just wondered why I had 68 people see the post from Facebook , but a smaller number was noted in the stats. Thanks again for your time. I appreciate it!
Have a great day!

Hi Heather,
Thanks for those details — now I see what you mean. :) The referrer count (the number of people who are visit your blog from Facebook) is actually the one listed under Referrers on your Stats page.
The number you see on the Facebook button on your post is the number of times the post has been shared on Facebook, not the number of visits to the post from Facebook. The number on the button comes directly from Facebook, based on the stats they have about how many times it was shared there.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
