Referrers
-
Hi could somebody help me interpret the function of “referrer” in my blog? I’ve an entry today that says “”People clicked on this link to get to your blog” and the link is “sphere.com/search?q=sphereit:http%3A//news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3602745.stm.” When I clicked on it, I’m taken to a Sphere webpage in which my blogpost is one among a list of the same subject. Does it mean my post is aggregated by Sphere and picked up on a BBC website? Thanks

I don’t think so. To me it looks like someone used Sphere’s search function for a particular term and they also found your blog. Did you by chance link to that BBC post in a post of your own? Sometimes people search for particular stories, especially the authors. They want to see who’s linked to it or referred to it.

I see, thanks alot Raincoaster. I mentioned BBC in my post but did not link to it. I guess that’s why. Still lots to understand about what these functions mean on WordPress.

Yes, if you mentioned the BBC that’ll be what it is. You can do the same kind of search for your own blog on Technorati.com. Just put your blog name in the search bar and select “search in blog posts” and you’ll see all the references to you, whether they linked to you or not.
