Referrers Stats Defintely Wrong
-
Hi. I write this blog – http://agencyspy.wordpress.com/
which gets anywhere from 300 to 100 page views from mediabistro. Each day the link to one of the pieces. My referrer stats have them only referrering 16 two days ago, 13 yesterday and 33 today. It’s impossible. Especially since the page views for the piece they are linking to has still been consistently the highest viewed individual piece. Is it possible just the referrers counter is off?
Has this happened to anyone? -
Have you checked Google?
Have you checked at Technorati? http://technorati.com/search/http%3A%2F%2Fagencyspy.wordpress.com%2F

From the forum searchbox https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=4265
Have you reported this to staff? http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ -
If I remember it correctly, blog statistics is a service that comes from Google. It has been written several times, that this Google service have quite a few errors. I have seen the problem you mention in these threads more than once. So yes: other people have the same faulty statistics. It is out of WordPress’ control…

There’s a problem with link reporting: I’ve come to the conclusion that the problem is Pingomatic-related, but it’s speculative. I seem only to be receiving no link notification from blogs that rely solely on Pingomatic, but blogs that use Pingoat.com do show up. Of course, Pingoat has been sketchy as well the past couple of weeks (I get a MySQL error 60% of the time). I don’t know what the solution is…

I’ve noted the same problems with pingomatic and with pingoat. I’m currently manually pinging Technorati after every post.

Would all of what you folks are talking about here relate to the fact that my dashboard-blogstats seem to be way underreporting page loads right now?
I have statcounter on a sidebar widget, and it tells me that since 5pm PDT (midnight GMT) last night I have at least 15-20 page loads… but my blogstats show 4. (I know I don’t get much activity, but I like seeing the activity I DO get! )is this problem of the same nature? (and therefore, out of worpress’s hands?)

Maybe there is sometimes just a serious delay?? I’ll have to count things up later… but it might have caught up with statcounter…

statcounter and WordPress.com stats will never agree, nor will either of them agree with sitemeter. Some count unique viewers, some don’t. The disagreements are going to loom larger when there are a smaller number of hits: as with anything dealing with averages, the larger the sample size, the more accurate the reporting.
Also remember that statcounter, sitemeter, and WordPress.com all have their clocks tick over to the next day at a different time. It could simply be that they’re out of sync.
