I bought a domain name last week and it appeared in my bank statement. But now when I check purchases on word press it says I have not made any purchases. Why is this happening?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

What is the URL of your domain?

It’s obvious you used another wordpress.com account to buy that domain and plan. You can use the transaction id to restore access to your account at https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

Then how come I was emailed a purchase confirmation from wordpress.com telling me that I have purchased the above url to the email address that I logged in with? When I log in with the same email address, the blog I made with that email and the purchase receipt is gone.

There was an account created Dec 22nd with the same wording as your URL so it looks like you did indeed create another account which must be connected to a different email address
    https://wordpress.com/forums/users/algorithmsinplainenglish/
So you’ll need to follow the link provided above to recover the details of that account.

Are you able to tell me which email or username that url is associated with? I clicked on the link you provided but there is no obvious next step to take to recover the details of that account.

  • Hi there,

The email address is the email at which you received the receipt when you bought the domain, and @themagicrobot provided you with the username in the forum profile link above.

Log out of the gtrman97 account, and log back in using either that username or email, and you’ll be in the correct account.

Otherwise, please follow our account recovery process at https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/ so we can help you regain access.

“The email address is the email at which you received the receipt when you bought the domain”

That’s what I thought and that’s what I’m saying. I used that same email to log in yet the blog and purchase receipt has vanished.

“and @themagicrobot provided you with the username in the forum profile link above”

When I click on his link it shows me no such username.

When I click on his link it shows me no such username.
??? Log out from this gtrman97 account and log back in with the correct username algorithmsinplainenglish and correct password. (I assume you did write down the password when you created that account?)
If not, as said earlier see https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

When I log out and log back in my https://algorithmsinplainenglish.com/ blog is gone as well as the purchase receipt. When I try the account recovery form it tells me “Your contact email is the same as your account – if you can receive emails you should try the password reset form instead. ” I tried that too but after logging in again with new password I still have the same problem of the blog and purchase receipt being gone. I have a transaction ID on my bank statement to show proof of purchase. What do I do now?

If you’re not seeing the site, then it could be with a different WordPress.com account.

You should next look to review any/all accounts that may be at play with WordPress.com.

I don’t know how else to say this: I am 100% certain that the email address associated with https://algorithmsinplainenglish.com/ is (email visible only to moderators and staff) – I have pasted the email I received from wordpress below:
    “Hello,

You are receiving this message because you recently registered or changed the contact information for one or more of the following domains: algorithmsinplainenglish.com.

ICANN, the organization responsible for the stability of the Internet, requires you to verify the email address associated with your domain registration to make sure you receive important notifications about your domain.

The email address we currently have on file is: (email visible only to moderators and staff).

Please click the following button to verify your email address as soon as possible, or your sites and emails that use this domain will stop working. ”

I clicked verify and yet when I log in with (email visible only to moderators and staff) my algorithmsinplainenglish blog is gone and there is no purchase receipt.

  • Hi @gtrman571

To clarify, we can’t really help with account recovery issues, as verifying the account requires you to provide sensitive information that should not be shared in public like this.

Because of this, we’ve helped as far as we are able. For more assistance please email us at passwordhelp@wordpress.com thanks!

Please understand. I KNOW MY PASSWORD. That is not the issue. I can log in just fine. The url and blog that I purchased, as well as the purchase receipt have vanished. How can this happen?

  • Unknown's avatar

staff-totoro Just to satisfy my curiosity about this and similar issues I’ve seen does changing an email address for domain contact information also change the email address for the account that purchased the domain or is that totally separate and the reason for this whole thread?

Would it have been simpler for the OP to log in to his account with username and password. Then he could check which email address was associated with the account or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely.

  • Hi there,

Please understand. I KNOW MY PASSWORD. That is not the issue. I can log in just fine.

Yes, you may be able to log in to your @gtrman571 account just fine. You may even be able to log in as @gtrman97 just fine too.

However, according to our records, the domain algorithmsinplainenglish.com was purchased under your @algorithmsinplainenglish account, which you may have forgotten about possibly?

To access your domain you need to log out of your current account and log in as @algorithmsinplainenglish and then you will be able to see and control your domain

If you need help accessing @algorithmsinplainenglish you can email us for assistance at passwordhelp@wordpress.com, thanks!

  • Howdy @themagicrobot :)

Just to satisfy my curiosity about this and similar issues I’ve seen does changing an email address for domain contact information also change the email address for the account that purchased the domain or is that totally separate and the reason for this whole thread?

Because of ICANN regulations, we provide a way to leave a separate “registrant email” field to satisfy that legal requirement. It’s not connected to the email address we use for accounts so updating your domain registrant email does not update your WordPress.com account. Indeed our account system will lock you out of using an email address (if it’s in use for another WordPress.com account) but if you can set any email address you wish for the “registrant email” without being barred from doing so.

So yes it adds some confusion… as if domains were not already confusing enough.

Would it have been simpler for the OP to log in to his account with username and password. Then he could check which email address was associated with the account or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely.

For the OP, it sounds like they just need help accessing the correct account so this would not work (the domain does not appear unless you are in the correct account) but yes in some other situation, as long as the user can see the domain under their account they could also find this info. Domains are admittedly very tricky at times though, and have a lot of moving parts that only staff can see. When in doubt it’s usually safest to modlook those, thanks :)
