Refund

I had created a site with WordPress but then realized I couldn’t add all of the features I wanted so I closed the account and now I need my refund.

    Correct account: Unknown

  • Hello there,

I can see that the purchase is now past the refund window, so a refund wouldn’t be possible.

If you require, I can restore the purchase for you so that you can make use of it until it expires/renews?

Please advise if you wish to proceed.

So even though I purchased an annual plan, I won’t be prorated for the 11 months I didn’t use?

  • Hi there,

According to our documentation “WordPress.com annual or two-year plans are refundable within 14 days of purchase or renewal” however you cancelled your Business Plan 32 days after the initial purchase, which is outside of our refund period.

If you wish, we’re happy to reactivate the upgrade on your account so you can use it for the rest of the term, but we are not able to issue a refund.

Out of curiosity what is the features you were after? With the Business Plan, you have the ability to upload any theme or plugin (of which there are tens of thousands of options) to add functionality that is not present by default on WordPress.

Because of this flexibility I’m surprised that you were not able to find the features that you needed. If you can tell us more about your project we’re happy to check and see if that can be added, thanks.

All of the features that I need to add costs too much (which is inconvenient) & didn’t have good reviews. I at least needed to add an option for customers to upload images for their orders on each product listing.
I also wasn’t a fan of any of the website layouts and didn’t want to pay an additional $40+ fee a year just for a decent website.
Literally every time I turned around the price to have a website with WordPress would increase. I didn’t see documentation stating that the annual plan was non refundable otherwise I definitely wouldn’t have paid for it. I spent a whole month trying to make WordPress work for what I needed it for but couldn’t because when I tried to get in contact with someone I’m left having to read forums instead of calling to talk to a human who could help me.
I literally only gave up because I couldn’t get in contact with anybody. I don’t understand why there isn’t a customer service number & everything has to be handled on forums.
I already lost the domain do reactivating my account is pointless & now I feel scammed out of over $300

  • Hi there,

The Business Plan you bought from us gives you the ability to install plugins and third party themes, but it doesn’t include those. That’s because those products are made by other companies, and if you want to use them, you need to pay those companies directly.

It would work like this at any hosting provider where you set up a site – you would need to pay your host a fee for the hosting services they provide, but then you’d also need to buy the software you want to use for your site separately, from the company that makes it.

I understand that’s not what you expected and that this can be frustrating, but that’s how it will work no matter where you go.

I at least needed to add an option for customers to upload images for their orders on each product listing.

So you want to sell a product that customers can customize with their own image? Like personalised t-shirts or mugs, type of thing?

For that we recommend https://woocommerce.com/products/product-designer-for-woocommerce, which is a premium plugin sold on WooCommerce.com. I also found some cheaper options at https://learnwoo.com/woocommerce-product-designer-plugins/, sold by other companies. But while there are many free plugins to extend both WordPress and WooCommerce, most good plugins for this type of advanced customization will be premium products.

I also wasn’t a fan of any of the website layouts and didn’t want to pay an additional $40+ fee a year just for a decent website.

We do have a limited number of themes available here on WordPress.com, but on the Business Plan you can also install any of the more than 4000 free themes available at https://wordpress.org/themes/. You also have the ability to modify an existing theme using custom CSS code, so it might be possible to get the design you want without having to buy a premium theme.

But as with plugins, themes with more advanced functionality and built-in customization options do tend to be premium products, as it requires a lot more work and expertise to create them.

I didn’t see documentation stating that the annual plan was non refundable otherwise I definitely wouldn’t have paid for it.

All our plans are fully refundable, but only within the refund period. You can find our refund policy here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/#refund-policy

I’m following up with you via email to see what we can do here.

I literally only gave up because I couldn’t get in contact with anybody. I don’t understand why there isn’t a customer service number & everything has to be handled on forums.

Your Business Plan gave you access to 24/7 live chat and email support. Those are accessible via the help icon that appears bottom-right on all the dashboard pages.

But the first time you contacted us was only after you had cancelled your plan, so by that point you no longer had access to live chat or email, and was routed here to the forums instead.

    I already lost the domain

Your domain isn’t lost. It has gone through redemption and has been deleted by the registry after you had cancelled it, but it’s currently available again, so no one else has bought it yet, and you could re-register it if you wanted to use it again.

Please reply to the separate email I just sent you if you have any other questions.
