    Do you intend to use the domain on another site?

    Or do you wish to completely give up ownership of it?

    It is important to know that cancelled domains are not released by the registrar immediately. Also note that here’s no guarantee you’ll be able to use a domain again as it may be sold to someone else. Therefore you should cancel a domain, if and only if, you are sure you do not wish to use it again.

    Please clarify as I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. Hello,

    I’ve entered ‘modlook’ in the tags box to the right of this thread to alert staff. Please subscribe to the thread so that you know when staff replies.

    In the future you could add the modlook tag to a thread yourself.

    @ackaeser
    The essential question is whether or not they wish to use the domain they purchased from wordpress.COM on another site. Simply tagging the thread with modlook means Staff will ask that question and that’s an unnecessary delay for getting support.

    I hope to but this has been difficult to figure out for me! So I get to use my domain since I paid for it on another site?

  • Hi there,

    I can still issue a refund for your domain – it looks like you just missed the 48 hour cut-off for domain refunds – but if you still want to use the domain I would advise restoring it rather than cancelling.

    Cancelling a domain means you give up ownership, as @timethief said above, and it won’t become available again immediately. In this case your domain should be available in a few days, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to get it back – anyone else could also register it once it’s released.

    If you want to take the chance and wait, let me know and I can process the refund. Otherwise I can restore it and help you point it to a different provider/move it to a different site.
