Refund.

Hi. I bought an upgrade yesterday so that my blog can be .com instead of wordpress.com. The reason I did this was to be able to install a custom theme I really liked but I had an unpleasant surprise and found out that I cannot do that unless I have a self hosted wordpress. So I was wondering if I can get a refund for the upgrade I purchased? Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Not to worry. You have posted here and that means you are within the 48 hour refund period for a domain mapping purchase. I will flag this thread so it gets Staff attention. Please post:

    • the URL for the .wordpress.com sub-domain blog you were maping from;
    • the URL for the domain you were mapping to

Then Staff will have the specific details they need when they enter this thread to assist you.

  • If we cancel the domain, it can take up to several weeks, and we can’t guarantee that your domain will be available to you again once canceled.

If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it.

Instead, you can move the domain to another site, using the Domain Administration tool under Store > Domains, at the bottom of the page.

If you don’t want this domain at all, you can cancel it for a full refund if you purchased it within the last two days.

To cancel the domain, go to Store > Domains in your dashboard. Locate the domain you want to cancel in the list, and click on the Cancel button next to it.

This cannot be undone, so please follow the on-screen instructions carefully before you confirm the cancellation.

I would like to keep the domain but I don’t want to have it under wordpress.com anymore. I just want to be able to install a custom theme. And what exactly do I need to do in Store>Domains ? The only domains I can see are roberttene.wordpress.com and roberttene.com

Does that mean I have to buy another domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, it means you have to buy web hosting and start a WordPress site in your new webspace. Then you can import your posts from here into your new space and add a theme and make the domain, which you bought from here, point to the new blog instead of the old one.

Ahh I see. But I would like to get a refund on this domain so that I can buy the web hosting. If I cancel the domain will the blog delete?

  • Well, if you get a refund on the domain, you can’t keep it. As mentioned above, if we cancel the domain, it can take up to several weeks, and we can’t guarantee that your domain will be available to you again once canceled.

Yes but if I cancel the domain will it go to the previous one: roberttene.wordpress.com?
So will the blog still be available in those weeks or will it be unable to be used?

  • Yes, if you cancel the paid domain, your blog will revert to the free WordPress.com URL.

I understand. I will do that then.Thank you for your help!

I have now canceled the domain. Waiting for a happiness engineer so I can get the refund.

  • Our upgrades department has received your request and will reply as soon as they can.

Once again, thank you for your help.

Oh, wait. I have one more question. Do I get the refund if I cancel the domain or do I have to send some kind of refund message to the wordpress staff?

  • Yes, they’ll take care of that for you.

I was wrong. I will transfer the domain to some other registrar. Bad part is, I already pressed the cancel button on the domain but it’s still pending. So can I cancel the cancelation :P?

  • No worries, I have cancelled your cancellation request.
