Refund of a theme.

    Hello,

We purchased a theme (Debut) about 6 weeks ago and are really happy with it! Unfortunately we created the site based on wordpress.com and so we’ve now run into massive difficulties in terms of transferring it over to our own domain. We would like to change over to wordpress.org so that we can have the website on it’s proper domain name but realised that we would have to pay for the theme again? We are a start-up company and really can’t afford to buy it again even though we’re so pleased with what we’ve managed to do with it so far on the website.

Would we be able to get a refund for the original time we purchased the theme if we are buying it anyway for the .org (i.e. just to transfer it over)? It would be such a massive shame if we had to start from scratch with a new/cheaper theme as we love it but can’t afford to pay twice!

Thank you so much and hope to hear from you soon.

    Kind Regards,

    Ophrah Gohil

Note: Premium Themes that are licensed for WordPress.com use only cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.

If a Premium theme doesn’t work out we offer a full refund up to 30 days from your purchase. To cancel your purchase and obtain a refund, please use the Cancel button on the Store -> My Upgrades page. You can always switch to any other Premium theme or one of our other fantastic free themes. And don’t worry, we’re adding more and more free themes all the time. :)

Sadly it has been around 40 days since the initial purchase. Would it still be possible to get a refund?

Please keep in mind we would not like the refund straight away as we would have to first purchase the theme on the .org website and get that setup first.

    Thank you

    HI oneintuition,

You’re just outside of our refund window, but I’ve gone ahead and issued you a refund for the Debut theme.

Good luck with your new site!

    Hello again!

SLIGHT PROBLEM! Could you remove the theme from the current blog tomorrow rather than right now i.e. after we have purchased the theme again on the .org website (otherwise we seem to be losing all our formatting etc)? We have been advertising etc so don’t want possible clients to go onto the website with how it looks without the theme while we switch it over!

Thank you so very much for the kind support,

    Hi there,

I’m sorry for the mixup. Because I have already issued the refund, if you wish to use the theme again, you are welcome to repurchase it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Won’t that mean paying for it and then having to request a refund again before transferring over to .org to purchase finally?

  • Unknown's avatar

I did ask not to remove the theme until we had transferred over before….

  • Unknown's avatar

You cannot transfer a theme from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. If there is a .org version, you can purchase it from the designer, but you don’t go through WP.com to do it, you go to the designer’s site.

Maybe I haven’t made myself clear… I’ve already checked and the same theme is available on .org. The problem is that i didn’t want the theme taken from my .com site yet as I have clients going on the website and now that the theme is gone it looks awful! I wanted to sort out the .org site, buy the theme and then have the .com theme taken off and refunded so that anybody going on the site wouldn’t have noticed any difference. Hence in my earlier post I asked not to have the theme removed until tomorrow…

The only way to get it back now is to purchase it, then ask for a refund tomorrow after the switchover.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay – how long do refunds take to process approximately? Thank you

  • Unknown's avatar

I am afraid I have no idea. I’ve never asked for one. Personally, I’d just run with it. A different theme for 24 hours is not worth the hassle, particularly as the different theme is already live.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah okay thanks! When I buy the same theme on .org will it revert back to how it was before then or will I have to reshuffle things about?

  • Unknown's avatar

You will have to reshuffle. .org is entirely separate from .com and you’ll be starting again from scratch.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh no!! Well at least the blog’s basics are there and can be copied and pasted over…? Oh dear…

    Hi again,

If you wish to purchase the theme from the theme designers, that is an entirely separate transaction from WordPress.com, though on occasion if you contact them directly they will work with you on a discounted version.

The theme is from Press 75:

Because of the way we serve as a theme reseller, unfortunately I cannot reactivate the theme unless you purchase it again. The refund may take a few days to show up in your account, and I apologize for the delay.
