Refund of automated payment

    I tried to obtain a refund back in September which I cancelled the dispute for:

    This is locked now and I can’t reply to it to obtain my refund. It has been four months now. The last post said I would have to re-contact you.

    Please can you now process the refund?

    Just to confirm, you’re saying you were not refunded by your bank? I’ve asked our billing team to follow up on this – they should be able to see by now how the dispute was resolved.

    You could have contacted us earlier than now, but I’ll try to get this resolved as fast as possible.

    I’ve heard back from our billing team, and if you haven’t been refunded by your bank/credit card company yet, that means the dispute is still in progress.

    It would appear you filed your original dispute against us with PayPal in July. PayPal denied the dispute and did not refund you.

    Then instead, of contacting us to ask for a refund, you filed a dispute with your credit card company, and that dispute is against PayPal, not WordPress.com. That dispute appears to still be in progress, but as it’s not against us directly we don’t have any more information to give you on it.

    You will need to contact your credit card company/bank to enquire about the status of that dispute. You can also try contacting PayPal, using the transaction ID appearing in your most recent receipt, here:

    But it’s not possible for us to refund the payment, as that transaction is essentially frozen until the dispute is completely resolved.

    Hi.
    I’ve had confirmation from both the credit card company and paypal that the dispute is closed. Paypal told me to contact my credit card company unfortunately which is why I did both.
    I can forward you the letter from the credit card company if that helps.
    That is the only thing that is stopping you refunding me then?

    It all happened very close to each other and that’s what I was told to do. Very sorry to cause you trouble; this has been a nightmare and I still dont have my money :(

  • I realise this must be frustrating, and if there was anything we do we would, but we are completely unable to refund the transaction at this point. I’ve asked our billing team to double check, but they were pretty sure when they explained this to me the first time.

    The only thing I can do at this stage is to restore your Business Plan and domain to your site so you have the use of that. Let me know if you want me to do that.

  • Good news. We were able to contact PayPal about this case and they’ve issued a refund from their side. It will take a few weeks before the funds will appear in your account, but the refund is on its way.

    As the refund wasn’t processed via our system I don’t have a transaction ID to give you, aside from the transaction ID appearing in the receipt for your original payment.
