Refund policy for WordPress.com Business – Conflicting Information
-
We are looking to use WordPress.com Business for our website but have questions about whether it is the right choice for our needs. We are considering purchasing WordPress.com Business in order to be able to seek live help, support and advice about this with the live chatting offered with this package.
Is there a better way to seek help on deciding whether WordPress.com Business is right for us? I have already researched extensively online and submitted questions in this forum, but there are still questions.
Before proceeding with the purchase of the upgrade, we would like the possibility to cancel and receive a refund if it turns out that WordPress.com Business isn’t the right choice for our needs. After finding your refund policies for upgrades on wordpress.com I have found conflicting information and would appreciate clarification:
On the page titled “Terms of Service” it states “Upgrade fees are not refundable.” http://en.wordpress.com/tos/
On the page titled “Support: Available Upgrades: Refunds” it states “We want you to love everything you do at WordPress.com, so we provide a 30-day refund on all of our upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers. You can request a refund yourself directly from the Store -> My Upgrades section of your Dashboard, or contact support to request a refund.”
Please clarify what your refund policy is for WordPress.com Business package. Thank you.

While in general there is a 30-day refund period for just about everything with the exception of domain purchases and renewals (which are 48-hours), that TOS clause certainly is confusing. I’ll mark this for Staff input.
Please subscribe to this thread from the sidebar if you haven’t already and be patient while waiting for a reply. As threads marked for Staff are handled on an age basis, do not bump this thread with a reply unless you have new information to give, as this will push this thread lower in the queue.

If you decide to purchase the Business bundle, you will have 30 days in which to request a refund, which will include everything but your custom domain, which is refundable for only 48 hours after registration.
If you still have questions about the bundle, you’re welcome to post them here as well, and I’d be happy to answer them for you.

@jackiedana-any comment/clarity on the TOS clause the OP referred to? I am assuming this is under Para 3: General Terms.

We don’t allow refunds through the entire life of an upgrade, but we do always refund purchases within the 30 day window if requested by the person purchasing the upgrade.

I do have more questions regarding the Business bundle and I won’t be able to make the purchase until they are answered. Hopefully you can help.
Do you know if our own videos uploaded from our computer to our WordPress Business site can be embedded on social media sites like Facebook? I am aware that VimeoPro is a good choice for video but it’s not clear if it would completely allow us to post onto social media sites and always link back to our WordPress.com website and never to Vimeo. We are also concerned that Facebook (et al) may require some sort of lengthy screening process if our videos are not coming from Vimeo or Youtube. I will also do more research within Facebook’s policies on this but I thought you might have experience with this.
On another thread where I posted a question, justjennifer recommended not using the Business package, and instead get VideoPress with a space upgrade, however I’m still trying to determine if that is the best choice based on the specifics about our large video content needs.
The space upgrade limit is 200GB (correct?) but we will unlimited space. It seems as though the Business upgrade annual cost is not much more than the 200GB space upgrade, and provides unlimited space, no? Is there something I’m missing?
I will wait until I hear back on these questions (also posted on another thread). If everything seems to work, then I will purchase the Business upgrade package with the understanding that your refund policy is as stated by jackiedana above, “you will have 30 days in which to request a refund, which will include everything but your custom domain, which is refundable for only 48 hours after registration”. Thank you.

See my answer here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/should-i-purchase-wordpresscom-business-for-a-video-website?replies=7#post-1536178 It is a better solution for you.

If you use Videopress your sites will not be shared as much. It’s better to edit in a link to your WP.com site on the video annotations and put it in the titles and About on a YT video (or Vimeo).
There is no upgrade here, not even the $30,000 a year VIP program, that offers unlimited storage.
-
Whether VideoPress or YouTube/Vimeo is a better choice depends to some extent on the kind of videos you have, and what you plan to do with them.
What kind of videos will you be posting, how large are the files, and is social media/visibility on YouTube or Vimeo an issue for you?
You can embed VideoPress videos on Facebook, but they won’t have the same visibility as hosting on YouTube if you expect them to be shared widely.

So far you have been very helpful and I think it would be better if I get more specific about what this is for in order for you to better help me:
The video post production company I work for has been asked by a long time client to create a website for the television show “The Kennedy Center Honors” with the domain name kennedycenterhonors.org. The KCH website’s primary function is as a warehouse for select KCH media assets spanning the 36 years of the show and for the show’s on going assets in the future. In other words, the site will be a web-based presentation of select text, photos and video created by the show.
We anticipate between 150-250 standard definition video clips ranging from 2-5 minutes in length. Plus hundreds of photos. The basic structure of the KCH website will be a main page featuring a timeline type interface with buttons leading to each individual show page, one for each year. Each individual show page will contain: text, downloadable photos and embeddable video clips from that year’s show. Please note, a critical aspect of the functionality of the site will be to include embed links for video assets. Videos need to be available for embedding on social media sites and other sites in general.
The KCH website is one part of a social media amplification strategy with the objective of building awareness, driving engagement, and generating excitement in social media for the upcoming 36th annual KCH show in December. However, for legal reasons we have been instructed to follow the “Oscars.org” approach for all of our media.

A timeline type interface cannot be done on WordPress.com at all. You will have to find external, paid hosting and go the WordPress.ORG route. It will be expensive.
If you do NOT absolutely need an interactive timeline, then you can build it here, but you are still better off to upload the videos to YT or Vimeo.
-
Sorry for the confusion, just to clarify, it’s not necessarily “interactive”. The main page design will feature buttons for each year of the show along a timeline. Each button leads to an individual show page. Is this a problem for WordPress.com Business?

-
Don’t even know what that is. WordPress was recommended to us as an option to avoid the need for writing code or hiring a developer.
-
You will have to either learn it or hire a web designer who knows how to do this in CSS, because we do not have access to the underlying php files here.
Basically, WP.com is a turnkey blogging solution. It is NOT good if what you need is a custom design, which is indeed what you say you need. It shouldn’t be more than a couple of hundred dollars for an ethical web designer who knows they can only work in CSS to get this working for you, but you can’t install an external theme. This timeline has to come from somewhere. That means in this case it has to be done in CSS.
