Refund Requested…

I don’t see an option to request a refund for domain registration. I was able to cancel my plan upgrade and be refunded for that but I was auto-billed the domain fees this morning, even though it said I had until the end of December to renew or cancel in their email. When I called customer service, they told me they ‘didn’t have a billing department’ and to just send an email to help@wordpress.com. The customer service was AWFUL during that conversation. I just want to cancel my account and it should be easy! Help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey there,

I am sorry that you had such an unpleasant experience with that.
I will tag this thread with ‘modlook’ for you, to ensure this is brought to staff attention.
A Happiness Engineer will see it an surely help you out. They are called Happiness Engineers for a reason, as they seem all to be kind and caring people.
Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon for you :)

  • When I called customer service

We actually don’t have a call center so I’m not sure who you reached. Sounds like someone pretending to be us :( Our support options are here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/help-support-options/

Domain refunds are tricky. Once you registered neuroslave.com, it had a few days where it wouldn’t be locked in for the year, and where if you changed your mind, we could return the domain to the registrar without having to pay for a full year. That is why the plan itself is refundable for 30 days, but if you buy a domain with the plan, that part can only be refunded within 48 hours of domain registration:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/

Also if we cancel the domain at this point it will not be available for re-purchase elsewhere anytime soon, because it’s essentially locked in for the year. What we can do though is help you get your domain pointed to another host of your choosing. And after the domain is 60 days old, you can transfer the domain to the new provider as well (if they take incoming domain transfers.) That way the year of registration you bought with us will be transferred to your new provider.

If you do not want the domain at all and don’t care about it being unavailable for repurchase, we can cancel it for you. We are well past the point though where we can get a refund for the domain cost.

I’m not sure I understand. You can cancel it for me but I can’t be refunded for it? I was just billed for this this morning, even though the emails specifically state that nothing was due until 12/29. I don’t want the domain anymore. And I don’t want to pay for something I’m not going to use. This isn’t a new account and the domain was registered at the end of last December. If my math is correct, the year that the domain is locked in for still runs through the end of this month.

  • Oh I see what happened; this was a renewal. No worries, we can refund in this case. That’s on its way — cheers!
