Refunded my domain in a mistake when triying to figure out hosts. Is there anyway to get it back?

  • Unknown's avatar

As the title says, I purchased a domain for myself, then in a state of confusion of what I actually wanted I refunded it thinking it was something else. Now that I did some research, I realize I made a mistake and lost the domain, but now I can’t re-purchase it. I’d rather not have to wait an entire year to get it back, nor do I want to change the name to add a dash or anything silly.

I know I did a pretty stupid thing by refunding it, and yes I know it even makes you check a box saying ‘hey, you probably can’t get this back’, but it was a spur of the moment thing caused by confusion and lack of knowledge, which really sucks.

Ouch!! Added “modlook” tag to see if Staff can help you out!

  • Hi there,

Can you please confirm you’re speaking of the domain, alchemyden.com?

You registered that domain without creating a site at https://wordpress.com/domains, correct? I can still restore that domain to your account, but to manually restore a domain I have to connect it to a WordPress.com site as well, so before I can do that I’ll need you to create a new free site in your account:

    https://wordpress.com/start/site/

Once you’ve done that and confirmed the domain, I’ll send you a payment link to pay for the domain again.

Or else you can also just wait a few days – your domain should be released by the weekend, at which point you’ll be able to register it again at a new domain, at any domain provider.

Please let me know how you’d like to proceed.

    I am indeed, for alchemyden.com

However, it’s not letting me get the domain when I try and transfer it or map it. :D

    What’s the next step?

  • Please go to the link I provided above and create a new free site in your account to which I can restore the domain, and let me know once you’ve done that. Then I can send you a payment link to pay for the domain again.

  • Perfect!

I’ve sent you a link via email. Please use that to pay for the domain again – note that it’s only possible to pay in US Dollar via that link.

Once we receive your payment we can reactivate your domain.

I think I have the payment sent through :)

  • Thank you.

I’ve restored the domain to your account, and you’ll be able to manage it by going to My Site ->Domains.

If you want to use the domain with another hosting provider, you can find the options for pointing the domain to another service here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/

Note that the transfer option will only be available once you’ve owned the domain for at least 60 days.

Awesome, it’s showing “Domain is parked” even though I have a DNS pointing to my self-host, I assume it’s because I might need to wait 72 hours for it to run properly?

Up to 72 hours, yes. Your computer and internet connection need time to forget the old settings and look up new ones. Sometimes simply turning your computer off and back on again (regular shutdown process) can help speed that up.

For what it’s worth, I can already see Ralsei and a Coming Soon notice. :)
