Refunding a domain
-
I just upgraded to a .com domain for my blog, but then I realized if I’m paying money, why not go to godaddy and use wordpress.org? So, I just emailed support to refund my domain purchase. Now I’m just waiting for the domain to become available again… Am I making a mistake here?

@hwang89 You can cancel a domain if you make a request within the first 2 days of purchase. When that happens, it means you completely give up ownership of the domain. Once it is canceled, it takes up to 5 days to get released back into the pool of available domains to purchase again. Anyone who gets to it first can register it. If you’re fine with that risk, then it’s fine to cancel. The other alternative is to just update the name servers through the WordPress.com domain manager to point to the GoDaddy web hosting:

You might want to review the differences: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ before going to godaddy.
The Domain Mapping at WordPress.COM is a real bargain as long at you meet the Terms of Service, much easier, cheaper and WordPress.COM does the update thing for you!

Thanks for the advice guys. Now I’m regretting making such a quick decision to refund. However, I’m still in control of the domain, so maybe they didn’t read my email… perfect.
