Refunding Premium service and remaping domains to WordPress.org
-
Hi,
I didn’t realize that WordPress.com does not support third party themes and plugins. I believe I need to remap my domains registered through WordPress.com to WordPress.org where I can then self-host. What is the best way to accomplish this and can I get a refund on upgrades. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Since you’ve already registered the domains, the simplest way to use self-hosted instead of WordPress.com is to setup your site with the hosting provider of your choice, and then map the domain registered with us to that hosting service.
While I could cancel your domains, the registrations are no longer refundable after 48 hours and after that time cancelling would also make them unavailable for some time before you could register them with another domain registrar. Assuming you’d still like to use those domain names with your self-hosted site, mapping them is the way to go.
After 60 days (per ICANN regulations) you’ll be able to transfer the domain to a new registrar if you would rather manage the domains with your hosting company instead of us.
Once you’ve selected a hosting service, the instructions will vary on how to map, but in general you’ll be changing your name servers for the domain to point to your host instead of WordPress. We some instructions for several hosts here:
Let me know if you’ve selected a host other than those and I can help you find what your name servers need to be.
Please let me know if you have further questions!
Best,

Thanks Alex
Yes It makes sense to leave the domains registered with WordPress.com.
I was looking at Bluehost as a hosting site as they apparently have optimized hosting for WordPress. Seems like reasonable pricing. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles; just a slick simple theme with an SEO plugin like Yoast that I can play with. I welcome any other recommendations you might have.
Thanks for the quick and helpful response!!Keith

Hi Keith,
We don’t have any particular hosting service that we recommend, but personally I have used Bluehost and WordPress.org in the past and didn’t have any problems. :)
Once you sign up for your Bluehost account, you’ll need to change your domain’s nameservers to these two records:
ns1.BlueHost.com ns2.BlueHost.comHere’s a guide on how to create custom name servers:
Let me know if you hit any snags. :)

Hey Alex,
So I tried mapping my domain keithnorriscounselling.com to Bluehost but I still get directed to my old dashboard instead of the Bluehost wp-admin panel. Whois shows keithnorriscounselling.com still at the wordpress name servers. Not sure what to try next.

Howdy!
Your domain settings also show keithnorriscounselling.com pointing to WordPress.com.
Follow these steps to change those name servers to Bluehost’s:
The name servers for Bluehost are these two:
ns1.BlueHost.com ns2.BlueHost.comBest,
