Regain Control of Parked Domain
-
I had registered a plan with with wordpress.com but determined it was not right for me. I cancelled the plan and the domain registration with the intention of hosting it elsewhere. After doing so I realized my domain may stay parked for quite some time so I would like to regain control of my domain if possible either by unparking or reregistering. Thanks

I see that this is already tagged for the support staff.
While you wait for them to respond, it would help you get a quicker answer from the support staff, if you let them know the domain name in advance.

Hi there,
Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to use a domain again once you cancel it. You should only ever cancel a domain if you don’t want to use it any more at all.
In this case, as you cancelled your domain within the first 5 days after registration, it should be released again early next week, at which point you should be able to register it somewhere else.
I can also restore the domain to your account, but you wont’ be able to transfer it away from WordPress.com for a period of 60 days after registration. As your plan has already been refunded, you’ll need to pay for the domain again before I can restore it.
Please let me know how you’d prefer to proceed.

Thank you. If I were to cancel 60 days would I get a partial refund on the annual plan since the amount is billed annually?

We offer a full refund up to 30 days after purchase, but we don’t give pro-rated refunds if you cancel after that time. Domains can only be refunded for 48 hours after purchase.
In this case your domain has already been released, so if you still want to use it with WordPress.com you can buy a new plan at My Site ->Plans and then register the domain again.
Otherwise, the domain should now be available to register with a different provider.
