Regarding Migration To Self-Hosted WordPress Blog
-
Hi,
I have a free WordPress blog (https://happyandharried.wordpress.com/). I bought a paid domain hosted by Bluehost on 6th Sept 2015. I have registered my new website as https://happyandharried.com/
I have followed the instructions by WordPress on Export-Import and it has worked out well. I have a few queries before I can make my new website fully operational. My old wordpress.com site is still receiving comments and followers. Can I do a final export-import of the latest file to reflect these in the new website, before I make it go live? I have edited some posts (mainly Featured Images, to improve aesthetics) in my new website. Will doing another export-import overwrite those edits?
Thanks,
Anjana. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can export content at any time and import it to your self-hosted site. Any new imports will be merged with the content that’s already there.

As far as I know, if the importer sees a post with the same URL, it won’t import that post again (that’s how it works if importing between two .com sites), but perhaps make a backup of your edited posts by copying their html from the text editor view into a text file before importing.
I think the WordPress.org forum’s people will be able to confirm exactly how it works on that side. http://wordpress.org/support/
Note you can also move your subscribers across, if you haven’t already. Just install the Jetpack plugin and follow the instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/
