Hi there, Yes WordPress can be used to receive payments, the steps and methods are not necessarily the same for WordPress.com and WordPress.org hosted sites.
On WordPress.com you would have to have a business plan to use the WooCommerce plugin and receive payments if you are going to sell products.
The WooCommerce plugin allows you to set up different payment gateways.
