Regarding Purchased Themes

    I would like to purchase a theme that I recently saw, however I wanted to know if after purchasing it, will that theme always belong to me? If I were to say, move to another web hosting site or wordpress type of we bbuilding program, could I also take the template with me? I want to create my website using the theme I saw here on wordpress, however for the future, I am not quite sure what I will be doing in terms of either staying here or transferring. I would like to know my options though, in the event that I do change. I don’t want to spend all that money on a theme and not be able to own it. What are my options? I would really appreciate the help. Thank you!

    Hi ,

    Typically you would need to purchase the premium theme again if you moved away from WordPress.com.

    Some Premium themes are available here at WordPress.com and also at WordPress.org. Some are WordPress.com exclusive. If your theme is available at WordPress.org, and you decided to move to self hosting, etc… You could ask the developer if they would discount that theme for you since you had paid for it once already. Won’t hurt to ask :)

    If we purchased the theme again, would it then be ours? Or do we basically have to continue to purchase the them over agian?

    Also, let’s say we purchase the theme, how can we know if it’s exclusinve? We just want to be able to purchase the theme and create our website, but have the flexibility to use it across any platform.

    Lastly, once we purchase a theme, do we need to also purchase a plan, or can we have a full website “www.example.com” ready to go once we finish designing? Thanks!

    There are many great FREE themes available to you at WordPress.com. http://wordpress.com/themes/

    Once you purchase the theme for WordPress.org, and then you moved to a different host (from DreamHost to GoDaddy for example) you would keep the theme for WordPress.org.

    Any domain that ends in something other than .wordpress.com is a custom domain, and you will need to pay an annual fee for those.

    The premium theme is it’s own one time charge and that unrelated to your plan. You can purchase a premium theme and remain on a free plan. If you upgrade to Business plan, the premium themes are included.
