regarding the custom upgrade
-
I am using the Lynda.com WP 3 tutorials and creating a website for a friends moving company as a way to learn basic WordPress. In the video, it looks as though you can use some of the more common typekit fonts for free. My guess is that WP has made this a premium service and now all fonts require subscription (perhaps you acquired them?) Can you confirm if this is the case?
As I am doing this for a friend, and it is a surprise, I created an account in his name, as well as an email account that I intended to turn over to him if he decided to use the site. The question is, if I purchase the custom upgrade, is it tied to this one account (or website). Does each website produced require the $30 per year upgrade subscription, or can a user have several sites? Is there a difference if the site is self hosted?
Thank you for your time.
Cheers,
B.

Howdy,
To help clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and the self-hosted WordPress software are two distinct entities:
Each flavor of WordPress has its own set of strengths. If you use the self-hosted version of WordPress, you may be responsible for maintaining a server, and other technical details. However, you’ll also be able to embed Javascript so that you can use embed codes offered by providers like Typekit.
Here at WordPress.com, we take care of all of the technical bits, so you don’t have to. You can customize your site by using the Custom Design upgrade:

This upgrade includes the ability to edit your site’s appearance with CSS code, as well as the ability to use custom fonts.

The Custom Design upgrade applies to a single blog. You’d need to purchase an upgrade for each blog you want to use the upgrade on.
