  I would like to know, am I able to use the free wordpress themes from the wordpress theme directory for commercial purposes, such as for my retail business’s website?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Yes. You can use free themes for your commercial / business websites.

  As mentioned, there’s not any problem with using a free theme on your upgraded plan.
