Register another blog on my own domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi All,
I can see this question asked before, but no real answer that’s any good.

Simple question, HOW can I register another WordPress Blog that’s using my own domain?
    i.e. Mydomain.com and not myblog.wordpress.com

When I try to register another blog, I only have the option to add a sub-domain blog, and yet my main blog (with my own domain) is already registered.

    Any help please?

I should add, this is so I can use wordpress.com stats service, which already works on one of my domains, but I’m trying to add another!

Or, if anyone can tell me how I change the domain of my current blog to another, my stats are showing the wrong domain etc.

You cannot do that here. You have to add it to a different domain.

Raincoaster, could you elaborate a little more?
Add what to a different domain?

And why do I already have my own domain registered, and unable to add a 2nd – but can add as many sub-domains of wordpress.com that I wish – makes no sense to me!
    Thanks.

I think it’s probably best if you discuss it with staff directly via Contact Support. They may have a workaround for you.

rshea – did you get an answer to this yet?

I’m trying to do the exact same thing. In fact, I cannot remember how I registered the first one! I have it hosted on my own website, and to get use the wp.com stats, I eventually figured out that I had to TELL wordpress.com about my blog. Now under my profile it lists my (self-hosted) blog, but since then I have created a new website using wp, so to get stats on it I need to register it, but…..

    how do I do that?

You have to register the new domain/blog and link it to your existing WP account *from the new domain/blog*, not from your account on wordpress.com.

Once you grab your API key from your account on wordpress.com and add it to your blog on your hosted domain it will then be profile.

I forgot how this is done myself, but just re-remembered and verified it works.

Sorry, just read my post and want to make sure I’m clear (a few beers and not enough sleep)…

    Here goes:

Assuming you already have an API key linked to your global WordPress account _and_ you want to add another blog on another domain and register/link it to your global WP account

Go to the new blog and in the admin settings -> Add your API key

Then the new blog on your own domain will be linked to your global WP account.

The confusion I had was I thought I could simply add the new blog (and new domain) in the wordpress.com profile settings, but again, it needed to be done from the blog on the remote domain.

To clarify: that cannot be done on blogs HOSTED by WordPress.com. It can be done using independently hosted blogs using WordPress software.

Unless we’re all barking entirely up the wrong tree and all you want is info on the domain upgrade. In which case, look in the FAQ.
