Register Domain Name

I’m trying to register a domain with WordPress. I’ve gone to the Store to do this, but the “Get A Domain” buttons on the registration page DO NOT WORK. You can click on them till your mouse turns blue, and nothing happens. Suggestions?

Are your logged in under the exact same username account that registered the free hosted WordPress.COM blog you want to purchase the upgrade for?
If you aren’t you will not be successful accessing that area.
If you are not even referring to a free hosted WordPress.COM blog then you will not be successful.
What is the URL starting with http:// for the blog you are trying to purchase the upgrade for?

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If you are not successful let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using and post any error reports you get.

@ thistimethisplace: Ok, I’ve done everything you suggested here for both Firefox (latest version for Mac OS 10.7.5) and for Safari (I didn’t even know Internet Explorer was still in existence!). I signed up for a free WordPress account this morning, which I’ve done absolutely nothing with other than try to get a domain registered, as well as ask for help. I’m logged in under the name you see here. Here’s what happens: I got to the Store page, click on the LEARN MORE button next to “Custom Domains”, and on the Custom Domains page I try to click on either one of the “Get A Domain” buttons – and nothing happens. Zilch. Nada. As though the buttons have been disabled. The third party cookies are enabled, the HTTPS is on, I’ve tried with the the browser extensions/add-ons temporarily disabled, and nothing. No error reports, no pop-up windows telling me somethings wrong, not even the Mac “No you can’t do that you idiot” sound.

How about putting in a ticket suggesting an error message – you need to have a blog to register a domain name?

If we each pitch in a few ideas – after a while big improvements are noted and everyone’s job is easier
Back when I was a productive member of society I used to say that I never had many ideas worth more than $ 0.25 each – but I had a lot of them – and unlike many of my peers I would rundown small production problems and maintenance issues – get rid of the ones nobody cared about – set productions and safety records doing that – – wrote industrial software – major changes in some systems – usually did not have a team doing acceptance testing after me (the only Engineer / Programmer that did not have a test team behind me) – – ask my boss about the missing test team one time – his reply was that by the time I finished testing my stuff to my standards that I had done a more though testing than any team he had could do – so he was putting the teams behind the other Engineers – was a compliment I guess – one project I did 3 months of program changes on live systems – in the end I left one bug in things – they ran for a few months until the maintenance guys finally decided to chase the bug down – I was told took them less than two hours to find and fix it – some obscure combination that happened once a week – oh well
