Register Domain name

  Good morning,

  I was wondering, about the domain name, hosting etc (that I don’t really get to be honnest), how could I do to keep the domain name so that no one can take mine.

  Can I register it directly with WordPress, or do I have to pay a web hosting (OVH or something else).

  As it is my professional website, I’d like to be the only one to have it.

  Hosting on WordPress.COM is completely free. You do not have to pay a single dime for that.

  However there are these server space limitations:
  1. On Free Plan: 3GB Storage Space
  2. On Personal Plan: 6GB Storage Space
  3. On Premium Plan: 13GB Storage Space

  So when you pay for an upgrade you are just playing to increase the server storage space along with some additional features.

  If you want to have unlimited server space you can opt in for the Business plan.

  When you upgrade you have a free domain credit, which can be used to register a custom domain like example.com via WordPress.COM.

  You can also use the free domain to map a domain that you might have registered from an external registrar like GoDaddy, NameCheap etc.

  TO SUMMARIZE:
  – Yes, you can register a domain via WordPress.COM. Read this: https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/
  – Hosting sites on WordPress.COM is completely free.
  – To register a domain or to map your externally registered domain to a WordPress.COM site you have to upgrade to a paid plan.

  So basically even if we did not upgrade, we are the only one who possess this domain ( frenchandspanishlanguagecoach.wordpress.com.) ?

  https://frenchandspanishlanguagecoach.wordpress.com/ is yours and yours alone for as long as you wish to keep the site here at WordPress.com. WordPress.com free sites never expire and can be used forever (or until the world ends/the Martians invade, whichever comes soonest).
