Register my domain name again after cancellation?

As many other people, I have been purchasing for a domain name on wordpress, but I’ve been cancelling it right after to do register on another website. Obviously the hosting platform i choose show me that the name was already taken. I saw on antoher discussion that a member staff was say the following thing : “We can’t guarantee that your domain will ever be available to you again once canceled. If you have any intention of using johnnyduel.com again in the future, I suggest that you do not choose to cancel.” What does that mean exactly ? That someone else may register it or it can never be available again ? How long should that take if it’s possible ?

It means what it says. When you cancel a domain the registrar you bought it from owns it. They can whatever they like with it and that includes not offering for purchase or even auctioning it off to a domain name squatter. There’s a huge industry built on snapping up cancelled domains and squatting on them and that’s why Staff caution us when we attempt to cancel.
