register my renewed domain

  Currently my domain colettesymanowitz.com is registered with Hostgator and I’ve mapped the domain to WordPress. The domain comes up for renewal in Jan2012, and I’d like to transfer the domain to WordPress and renew it directly with WordPress.com. How do I do this?

  If domain mapping costs $12, what does WordPress domain registration cost? Still $5?

  Unfortunately, we cannot accept incoming domain transfers, and I don’t recommend letting it expire. Expired domains become the property of the registrar, and they typically hold them for back-order or auction them off after expiration.

  Thanks Macmanx, so I have no option but to renew the domain with Hostgator again?

  Yes, your best bet for keeping the domain name would be to renew it through HostGator. You can also ask HostGator about transferring to another registrar, but we wouldn’t be able to act as your registrar in this case.
