Register to use Ping-o-Matic is neccesary?

I would like to know if it is necessary to register in the blog directories previous to use Ping-o-Matic! in order that the ping is effective (i’ve readed that WordPress.com make automatic pings of our update to Ping-o-Matic!).

I think I can to make concrete my cuestion…
When WordPress make a ping to Ping-o-Matic, this one realice a ping to several blogs, like Weblogs. My doubt is: is necesary to register (for example) in Weblogs previously to make a ping to Ping-o-Matic for the ping are effective?

Might be. We’ve noticed it on Technorati that registering seems to make things work better with that service.

If you go to Ping O Matic and do a ping manually you will see what it does. Some registration at third party sites is necessary to get the full ping efect.

It does not hurt to register with the sites individually or the pinging services, although Pingomatic is pinged automatically by WordPress, so technically you don’t have to register with them. Many of the sites they ping are unsophisticated and require you to register in advance, though, and some, like BlogTopSites (primarily UK) require you to host a button widget for them.
I have a backup system at Pingoat that I ping manually every time I update, just in case Pingoat fails, which it does from time to time.
