Registered a username but cannot register blog name

    Hi!

    I started signing up for a wordpress blog and named it closetbroad. When I entered my email, it recognized my email (I forgot I had an old blog) and asked me to sign in. I signed in and was taken to my dashboard, so I went to settings and successfully changed my username, but when I went to change the wordpress address, it said the name was taken.

    When I started the sign up process a few minutes earlier, I was able to select the name closetbroad.wordpress.com, but after signing in to my old account, now it says it’s taken and was deleted by the user.

    I don’t understand what happened. Is there an error here or am I missing something?

    Can anybody shed some light? I’d really appreciate it!

    Hello @closetbroad
    If you have already used ‘closetbroad.wordpress.com‘ on some WordPress.COM site, you cannot use it again on any other site, even if you delete the site with that address or change the address.

    If you want to use that address on some other account you can transfer that site to your desired WordPress account by following the instructions given here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

    NOTE: If you have deleted the site or changed the address you cannot use it again. It is reserved so that no one can register and use it(not even you). This is mainly done to keep your site/blog from being impersonated by someone else.
