Hi there,
When you register a domain, you’re purchasing the right to use that exact name (in this case, neversinkfiredistrict.com) with your site. The only way to switch to a different domain name (like neversinkfiredistrict.org) is to register it as a new domain name.
If you’d like, I can cancel your domain name neversinkfiredistrict.com for you and reset your domain credit so you can register neversinkfiredistrict.org for free. (Please note that canceling the name neversinkfiredistrict.com means you won’t be able to use it at all, and there’s no guarantee it’ll be available to register again later.)
If you think you might want to keep neversinkfiredistrict.com, you can also register neversinkfiredistrict.org as a second domain name from your Domains page here: https://wordpress.com/domains/
You’re welcome to have as many domains as you’d like linked to your site, so if you own both domain names people will be able to use both neversinkfiredistrict.com and neversinkfiredistrict.org to get to your site.
Please let me know how you’d like to proceed and I can give you a hand with that. :)

Thank you for getting back to me! I would like to switch it to neversinkfiredistrict.org. I will check with our commissioners to see if they would also like to register the .com as well, but I can’t make that decision.
So again, please change us from neversinkfiredistrict.com to neversinkfiredistrict.org.
Thank you!!! Allison

Hi Allison,
If you’d like to start using neversinkfiredistrict.org, you’ll need to register it from your Domains page here: https://wordpress.com/domains/
If you decide you no longer want the domain neversinkfiredistrict.com, I can cancel that for you and refund the cost of the second domain. However, I don’t want to cancel it until you’re sure you no longer want it.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hello – I registered Neversinkfiredistrict.org – and would like a refund for Neversinkfiredistrict.com. There’s a good chance we’ll register that one after the next meeting, but for now, I am not authorized to spend the money on that.
The total amount I was charged was $26. Thank you. Allison

Hi Allison,
You actually already own the domain neversinkfiredistrict.com. That was included as part of your WordPress.com Premium plan at no extra charge. I can cancel that domain and issue a $26 refund, but if I do that there’s no guarantee the domain will be available for you to register later on. If there’s a good chance you’ll want that domain, I’d highly recommend not canceling it now.
Would you like me to go ahead and cancel neversinkfiredistrict.com anyway?
-
Hi – yes, please cancel and issue the refund. I don’t have the authority to make the purchase; it needs to be approved by our Board of Commissioners. I will propose at the next meeting that we also purchase the .com name. If someone else buys it before then, there’s not much I can do about it. I’d rather be safe than get into trouble for making an unauthorized purchase and lose my job.
Thank you! -
Hi Allison,
Sure thing, I completely understand! I’m sending you an email with some additional details about the refund. (You’re welcome to reply directly to that email with any other questions.)
