Registered for a business pack but can't access the wordpress site
-
I have bought a Business pack on instructions from my web designer
He has given me the email, username and password but these were not asked for during the registration process. He cannot reach the site and neither can I on a different PC.
How can this be sorted out?
Geoff

The wordpress URL given is as above dylanthomasbirthplacecom.wordpress.com. The site we eventually want to move to this site is dylanthomasbirthplace.com

The WordPress site is as above dylanthomasbirthplacecom.wordpress.com
The site we will eventually want to link to it is dylanthomasbirthplace.com -
according to https://www.whoishostingthis.com/#search=dylanthomasbirthplace.com dylanthomasbirthplace.com is not on the wordpress.com platform. I even doubt dylanthomasbirthplace.com is using wordpress as CMS.
I also see you registered https://dylanthomasbirthplacecom.wordpress.com/, but someone already registered https://dylanthomasbirthplace.wordpress.com/.
Did you already try to log in via https://dylanthomasbirthplace.wordpress.com/wp-admin with the username and password your webdesigner gave you?
I tagged this to get help from a Staff member; please wait till one of them answers. -
Can you confirm you’re trying to log into dylanthomasbirthplace.wordpress.com right now?
I understand the address will be dylanthomasbirthplace.com later, but we’re trying to get you logged into the new site, correct? What is its address now, and, what email address or username are you logging in with?
Noting with the email, if you’ll type it here, it will be hidden from public view so only staff can see it. And we can use that to look for more information.

dylanthomasbirthplace.com is not on wordpress. We want to change the platform that it is on and create a new wordpress site.
I registered the name as that what came up through the registration process which appears to be dylanthomasbirthplacecom.wortdpress.com . It is true that the web designer originally registered dylanthomasbirthplace.wordpress.com and gave me these details(redacted)
It seems now that my registration needs to be transferred to the site registered by the web designer
Thanks for your help

Good Morning –
I have looked over the admin admin5cwmdonkindrive account but it doesn’t have any sites or blogs registered to it.
The site at https://dylanthomasbirthplacecom.wordpress.com/ is set up on the 5cwmdonkindrive account. That’s the one that you are using here. So, you are signed in correctly to work on that site.
If I have misunderstood the question/problem please let me know.

I think I have solved it
The 5cwmdonkindrive account is one I set up a long time ago – and gave up on trying to fathom WordPress! I had recently had another go on wordpress.org. I can only imagine the registration process picked that account up to set up dylanthomasbirthplacecom.
However, I tried to login on another pc and it told me password was not recognised. I eventually changed it and giot into the set there.
I’m now waiting for the web designer to see if he also is able to log in
Hope this is clear!!!!!!!

Hi, Geoff
I think we’re dealing with confusion with the two types of “WordPress” here.
You’re posting here via the WordPress.com username account,
5cwmdonkindrive. This account owns the site, dylanthomasbirthplacecom.wordpress.com, for which you bought a WordPress.com Business Plan on 15 October, after which you also added a domain mapping upgrade for the domain, dylanthomasbirthplace.com.That domain is not currently pointed to the WordPress.com site, though, but to a stand-alone WordPress site hosted by ionos.com
The other username you provided,
admin5cwmdonkindrivewas created on WordPress.com a month ago, but that account has never owned any sites, and have absolutely no connection to the dylanthomasbirthplacecom.wordpress.com site. Here’s what I think is going on:
Your designer has been building you a site using the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org (something completely different from WordPress.com). That is the site you see if you go to https://dylanthomasbirthplace.com/.
Your login for that site has nothing to do with your WordPress.com username account, but uses its own username and password that is completely unique to that site (and that you must please change ASAP given that you posted that password in your previous reply here in a public forum).
You cannot buy a WordPress.com business plan for that site, as that site is not hosted on our servers.
I hope that clarifies things for you. Let us know if you’d like us to refund the WordPress.com business plan you bought from us, as you cannot use that with your current site.

I think that you are nearly there.
The 5cwmdonkindrive account was set up by me in 2012. I only suggested wordpress.org as I had recently been looking at that for another site (as an aside – and as a fairly computer literate non-geek – I find wordpress in all its incarnations very confusing – I have built sites in Front Page and Dreamweaver which were simple to use). That is what the registtration process picked up.
The designer want to build the site in wordpress.com and then transfer dylanthomasbirthplace.com as the domain name once that is complete. At the moment that site has been built using a system called shiftcreate because the web designer at the time the had serious and well placed worries about the security of wordpress sites.
As regards login details for that site I was asked for them by one of your staff people and told they would not be shown publicly
So if the designer is OK with what I have registered and the admin5cwmdonkindrive can cease.
Hopefully I have got it right now

Hi there,
Thank you for the information. If you want your designer to be able to work on your WordPress.com site, you need to add him (probably as an administrator) on that site. You can find instructions on how to invite them here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
