I can move your followers for you. I just wanted to make sure you don’t want to link your site with the correct user name first? Or is this how you want Jetpack set up?
-
Wouldn’t it be best to link them first? I do have jet pack installed. Which and how I discovered the mess up. I want to do what is right. I should probably have them linked so I can access the old site from the new if needed, right.?
-
Sure. It will probably be easiest for you if your old site and your new site are both connected to the same account. You can change this by disconnecting Jetpack, and reconnecting it.
You can do this from the dashboard of your new site.
-
Ok. Like I said I can’t link them because we registered the new site under the wrong username. So that needs to be fixed. And then can we link them?
-
You can link the site to the correct username by disconnecting your Jetpack plugin from WordPress.com. Then you can reconnect and select the correct account to connect it to.
Does that make sense?

i didnt have jetpack on my http://www.chaosorganized25.wordpress.com. i had jetpack on my http://www.chaosorganized25.com. do i need it on my wordpress.com?
-
so when i go to my wordpress.com blog and on my main page select “manage” under my wordpress.org blog- i get a new screen about “Move followers from a wordpress.com site”- but when i click the drop down menu, my wordpress.com blog is not listed. just another blog i used to run.

Right, you can only transfer followers to and from sites on the same account. Currently chaosorganized25.wordpress.com is associated with this account motherofchaos3. And chaosorganized25.com is not.
What account do you want these sites to be attached to?
-
So I am motherofchaos3 and chaosorganized25 (admin for the wordpress.com site) and I am the admin for the new. Org site (chaosorgsnized). We just didn’t know to register them under the same admin and then forgot to add the 25 on the end.

I’m not currently able to find the site chaosorganized25.com linked to a WordPress.com account. Please note that the account you use to log into your self hosted site is not a WordPress.com account.
Can you please log into your self hosted site and follow these steps to connect your WordPress.com account in the Jetpack plugin:
-
That’s bc we linked it to a wordpress. Org account via the wrong username. If it was linked to our. Com then we would be ok. So once the. Org is linked to the right username, once we long in under the right user we will be able to see it under the. Com. It’s so confusing!
-
Alright. I’ve disconnect motherofchaos3 from your Jetpack plugin on your site. Please log out of your WordPress.com account and head over to your self hosted site’s dashboard. Connect your Jetpack plugin to the account chaosorganized25.
-
Ok. It’s showing up now. I went to migrate followers and it tells me only blog owners can and won’t do it. But im the blog owner! But at least I’m a step closer
-
Alright. I’ve gone ahead and manually transferred your followers. They should all appear shortly.
Let me know if you have other questions.
