Registering a blog name on WordPress.org
-
When WordPress refers you to a hosting site and you go there and pay for your hosting how do you register that blog name on WordPress?
-
Hi there,
WordPress is the name of the software.
WordPress.org is the website where that software is made by a community of volunteers. WordPress.org has nothing directly to do with your site, and there’s no way to “register” a name on WordPress.org.
When you buy hosting from a hosting provider, most of them will also include a domain name in the hosting plan that you buy directly from them.
WordPress.com, where you’re posting now, is also a hosting provider, but for our own, modified version of the WordPress software.

Thank you so much I have an old WordPress account for only following blogs. But, now I am trying to start my own blog and I did get a domain name with Siteground on of the hosting sites WordPress recommends, I just don’t know how to get that domain name on WordPress now?

If you definitely want to use the WordPress.org installation rather than creating a site here at WordPress.com then you’re asking in the wrong place. Reach out to Siteground to inquire about setting up your new domain there with a site that uses the WordPress.org software.
